I don't know if pre-orders help to move a project along by providing some assurance of future financing for the investment of time. I do know that the implied voting involved in pre-ordering can help prioritize project schedules. Have you ever considered pre-orders?

(Yes, I know the evil Others do it. That doesn't mean it's a bad idea . . .)
